about the quartet

The Jasmine Quartet was founded in 2024 by violinists Mira Steenbrugge and Amber Correa, violist Becca Marr, and cellist Ezra Escobar, with the aim to recontextualize and develop the string quartet practice beyond the classical tradition. A shared passion for repertoire by new and underrepresented composers brought them together at the Royal College of Music, and the quartet is committed to expanding the reach of classical music beyond traditional demographics through repertoire that reaches across genres and cultural boundaries. The quartet has collaborated with the foremost emerging composers in the UK, including Molly Frances Arnuk, Deniz Dortok, Margarida Gonçalves, & Luciana Perc.

During the 2024-25 season, the quartet received special commendations in the RCM Contemporary and String Quartet competitions and premiered works by RCM composers at St. James’s Church Piccadilly and the RCM’s Great Exhibitionists concert series. The 25-26 season features premieres of works by UK and USA-based composers Thomas Shorthouse, Zygmund de Somogyi, & James Madrilejo, a mentoring partnership with the RCM’s composition faculty to help students develop their compositional practice in the string quartet medium, and debuts at Theatreship, St. Mary Abbots Church, Concerts for Charity London & the Albion Orchestra’s Up Close concert series.

The Jasmine Quartet has been fortunate to receive guidance and coaching from the Marmen Quartet, Emily Sun, Cecily Ward, & Natalia Lomeiko at the RCM and support from the Hinrichsen Foundation.
