about the quartet
The Jasmine Quartet was founded in 2024 by violinists Mira Steenbrugge and Amber Correa, violist Becca Marr, and cellist Ezra Escobar, with the aim to recontextualize and develop the string quartet practice beyond the classical tradition. A shared passion for repertoire by new and underrepresented composers brought them together at the Royal College of Music, leading to numerous collaborations with RCM composers in their debut season. The quartet is committed to expanding the reach of classical music beyond traditional demographics through repertoire that reaches across genres and cultural boundaries.
During the 2024-25 season, the quartet received special commendations in the RCM Contemporary and String Quartet competitions and premiered works by RCM composers at St. James’s Church Piccadilly and the RCM’s Great Exhibitionists concert series. The 25-26 season will feature premieres of works by UK and USA-based composers Thomas Shorthouse, Zygmund de Somogyi, & James Madrilejo, a mentoring partnership with the RCM’s composition faculty to help students develop their compositional practice in the string quartet medium, debuts with Concerts for Charity London & Albion Orchestra’s Up Close concert series, and the forthcoming release of the quartet’s debut recording project. The quartet has been fortunate to receive guidance and coaching from professors Emily Sun & Natalia Lomeiko at the RCM.
